NLAI TUMAINI SCHOOL
Pre-primary school for children at the dumpsite and support in local schools
New Life Africa International Tumaini School is located next to a dump site. We offer 2 years of pre-primary school and then support the children in local schools.

The dump site is a place for those who have no other options. It is a place characterised by extreme poverty, drug abuse and many die of HIV/AIDS. Here, people can survive by scavenging for food in the waste and selling plastic for a minimal income. The children are often malnourished and sick due to lack of food and inadequate hygiene. The families live in houses made of plastic bags, tin or wood without water or sanitation.
Next to the dumpsite is the NLAI Tumaini School, which offers 2 years of free Pre-primary school to the children of the area. In addition to education, we ensure that the children receive daily meals, health checks and medicine. We also offer counselling to children and parents. In this way, we try to help both the children and the families with stability in an environment characterised by difficult challenges.
NLAI Tumaini School teaches 80 children in Pre-primary school
Two years of pre-primary school are mandatory to enter primary school. When the children have completed NLAI Tumaini Pre-primary School, we support them in their further schooling. The dump site is at the other end of town from New Life Africa International School, so the children attend local primary schools closer by.
As a sponsor for one of these children, the school may be called Mlimani Primary, Lenana Primary or Moi Primary, among others. We follow up on the children’s well-being and continue to pay for their uniforms and school expenses, for their daily lunch, medical care and other needs that may arise in connection with their schooling.
NLAI supports locally in other schools:
- 200 children in local primary schools
- 6 children in a special needs school
After having finished Primary and Junior School, the children have the opportunity to continue in the school system on the same terms as the other children in the NLAI School.
